    TANG SOO DO - GRADING 8th TO 7th GUP

 

Promotional Requirements for 8th to 7th Gup: (Pahl Gup to Chil GUP)

(for Yellow Belt with Orange Tag)

Candidates' Basic Requirements.

To qualify for grading, candidates must have attended class at an officially recognised NTSDO class for a period of not less than twenty-five one-hour sessions or 8 weeks prior to their last grading.

A.                GENERAL KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

a.      The candidate must know: Why he/she is practising basic techniques in one-way rather than another.

b.      The answers to such simple questions as "What is the Korean word for 'belt', 'flag' and your present rank". The Korean terminology used to describe the techniques performed for the examination in question and Korean terminology of Tang Soo Do studied to date.

B.                DEMONSTRATION OF ABILITY

BASIC TECHNIQUES (Gi Cho)

                     Hand techniques (Soo Gi)

                     Knife hand low block, Knife hand attack and Hammer fist attack

                    Foot techniques (Jok Gi)

                 Side stretch kick, Side snap kick

FORMS (Hyung)

     Kee Cho Hyung Sam Bu, Pyung Ahn Cho Dan

THREE-STEP SPARRING (Sam Soo Sik Deh Ryun)

C.         BREAKING TECHNIQUE (Kyuk Pa)

Candidate must be able to demonstrate a skilful and correct side snap kick against a breakable board. In addition to the above requirement, the examiner may ask candidates to perform techniques from any previous grading examination.

            Additional Terminology you should learn other than Basic Commands etc.

Blocks      Soo Do Hah Dan Mah Kee (Low Knife hand block)        

Attacks      Soo Do Kong Kyuk (Knife hand strike)                 Kwan Do Kong Kyuk (Hammer fist)  

Kicks         Yup Poda Gi (Side snap Kick)
